The armoire’s craftsmanship is attributed to the Syrian workshop of Jamil Sursur, a precursor to Ahmed Jamil Workshop, which is a well-known workshop in Syria that specializes in mother-of-pearl inlay work. The workshop has been active for over a century, making this armoire a precious example of their work. The pearl inlay work on the armoire is not simply glued or inserted into the wood, but instead, it is sewn or sutured into the wood using a special technique. This technique is known as geometric suturing pearl design, and it involves carefully stitching the mother-of-pearl into the wood to create intricate patterns and designs. The armoire is large and stands on three sturdy supports, and features a detachable crown of traditional Arabic style. The crown is adorned with rich inlays in patterns of mother of pearl and wood, which create intricate designs.
